I am making a commitment to living a healthy lifestyle, once and for all. I have made promises to myself before, only to let life get in the way. Why is this time any different? For starters, I have the blogosphere to help hold me accountable! Also, I have a very busy schedule juggling work, school, internship and life in general that I really need the energy! Below are some of the “rules” I am living by.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. I went to the Farmer’s Market and stocked up on plenty of my favorites. I am eating as many “whole” foods as possible. This means steering clear of processed foods chock full of additives and preservatives.
Plan ahead. I have planned out all of my meals for the upcoming week.
Eliminate empty calories. No more soda. I have never kept it at home, but often drink it at work to get me through the day. If I really need a caffeine fix I will drink some green tea sweetened with a bit of agave nectar instead.
Stay hydrated. I take my reusable water bottle with me everywhere so I stay on track and am not tempted to drink soda or other sugary beverages.
Utilize available
resources. I use my slow cooker so I
can come home to a meal requiring little to no effort and resist the urge to
stop and pick up fast unhealthy food.
Exercise. Work out for at least 30 minutes 5 days (or more!) a week. No excuses! Even if it means on a particularly hectic day I just take a few laps around the block on my lunch break.
My goal for this month is to lose 8 pounds. Even more important than any number on the scale is the fact that I have taken control of my life. I am not letting my weight control me anymore!
