One of America's favorite foods, butter, is packed with taste that we all love to add on to many things, like bread, potatoes, corn, and pancakes to name a few. But by now, we all know that butter is loaded with calories and fat!

Q: What's better for me: olive oil, butter, or butter replacements? Provided By Rebekah Winquest justgoodenergy.com
A: While olive oil is better for you than butter from a health standpoint, nutritionally they are both equally fattening and have 135 calories per tablespoon and 15 grams of fat.
When choosing between olive oil and butter, olive oil is the healthier choice because it is a monounsaturated fat and high in antioxidants. Studies have shown that olive oil offers protection against heart disease by lowering LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels while raising HDL (the "good" cholesterol) levels. Studies also link monounsaturated fats to reducing the risk of heart disease, certain cancers and even depression and Alzheimer's disease.
The problem with most vegetarian spreads is they are generally made with oils that are very acidic and fairly toxic to the body, plus they are not essential and provide little to no health benefits. Some of the oils I am referring to are soybean and canola oil - the 2 most popularly used which should never be heated, are extremely acidic, provide none of the good omega 3's, create toxicity in the blood stream, are very difficult to digest and put more strain on the overall internal stress of the body. As a replacement to butter, these unnatural spreads are pretty foreign to the body and are less natural than butter.
That being said, butter is also not a necessity in the diet, high in animal saturated fats, acidic and should ideally be omitted. The only way one should eat butter and not feel guilty or concerned about their health is to eat raw butter. So I would choose raw butter over the fake butter spreads.
Here is my optimal choice: Use raw cold-pressed coconut oil instead of butter (healthy, non-fattening and delicious); or Only buy spreads made with cold pressed olive, flaxseed and/or coconut oil (I have tried a few products with only these ingredients and spices and they are yummy and easy on digestion)
