Teaching Garden - Goal for Healthy Eating Habits

Posted: Apr 27, 2010, 2:20 pm
Yesterday, the Teaching Garden planted its second garden at the Will Rogers Learning Community School in Santa Monica, Calif. I joined my good friend Kelly Chapman Meyer at the event to lead the kids in an exercise routine, and spent a great morning with them...comments(1)

The Biggest Loser

Posted: Apr 21, 2010, 5:02 pm
In January I had the opportunity to film a workout with the remaining contestants on the Biggest Loser.  I can talk about wanting to make little and big changes in my life, but these people are redirecting their lives. By the time I connected with them they had been grinding it out for ...

Start Fresh With a Clean Slate

Posted: Apr 9, 2010, 4:18 pm
Every day is a new day and it's a chance to start over and clean the slate.  Don't be overwhelmed by the fact that you haven't exercised in five months or five years.  If you feel like you're under an extra few pounds, don't let all of these things keep you from starting today with ...

Watch it or Live it

Posted: Apr 6, 2010, 8:54 am
When did we stop really experiencing things to being the ultimate voyeurs?  I almost know more about Sandra Bullock and Jesse James than I do my neighbors. To top it off we all jump on bad news like a pack of hungry coyotes. We shamelessly frenzy around the misfortune of others ...

Armor for the Grind

Posted: Mar 31, 2010, 11:49 am
I have been traveling this past week, and something really obvious dawned on me.  I don't just need to stay in shape for my health and to look the way I want.  It really has become an armor to help protect me in this intense time.&nb...

Victim or Selfish?

Posted: Mar 29, 2010, 5:08 pm
What's better: being a victim or being selfish? Sounds like a trick question.  Often, when I write these entries, I get some comments saying that it's shallow to talk about how bad people can feel when they're out of shape. I'm not talking about an aesthetic. Can someone be overweight and...

Don't sacrifice too much for the sake of being efficient!

Posted: Mar 17, 2010, 5:21 pm
I'm not going to lie, there are days when the routine of life has me borderline depressed.  Not a deep depressed but a shallow boredom that messes with my head.  I start to think that if I feel this way, and I get the chance to change it up here and there...comments(3)

Ten Ways to Good Health

Posted: Mar 15, 2010, 9:38 pm
I'm going to do something I never do: keep my entries short and sweet. I started pondering the "overload" we experience during our daily lives.  I admit sometimes I get involved with making it all too complicated...comments(2)

Keeping Yourself Happy

Posted: Mar 15, 2010, 12:57 pm
After being married for over 12 years, and having a few daughters one thing keeps becoming more and clearer.  I have to make myself happy.  What makes me say this?  I have one of the most high energy, wonderful, and painfully honest husbands.  Every so often we just talk ab...

Take Control of Your Health

Posted: Mar 8, 2010, 10:23 am
In a time of feeling like everything is out of control; war, economy, strange weather, kids etc, this is THE BEST TIME to take control of your health. I know I sound like a broken CD, but in reality there really is so little we are in control of. I personally like to plan for the future and ...

Tsunami Precautions

Posted: Mar 1, 2010, 8:10 pm
On Saturday the state of Hawaii was put on a tsunami alert following the devastating 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile.  In pure Laird form he was up and at em' first thing in the morning moving all vehicles to high ground...comments(1)

Never Ending Challenges

Posted: Feb 24, 2010, 2:53 pm
I think I end up starting new challenges weekly.  I have the one month challenge, the no chocolate or bread challenge, the only drink water challenge, and the list goes on and on.  What I do like about setting a clear cut goal is it does create a STARTING POINT which I think is critica...

Pillow Talk

Posted: Feb 22, 2010, 11:24 am
It seems that right as my head hits the pillow at night, I get this urge to "talk" with my husband Laird (who takes about 15 seconds to fall asleep) about family and the days events.  Last night I was trying to explain to him that as a Mom I often feel like a coordinator more than a nurture...

I know it's a set up, but can't we see thru the crap?

Posted: Feb 11, 2010, 1:44 pm
Redefine yourself!  See who you want to be and who you already are inside and make that happen. I'm not talking about opening up a magazine and looking at a shot of an 18 year old girl and saying "that's who I dream to be".  Who are you?  What is the best YOU that you can be? ...

Standup Paddling

Posted: Feb 5, 2010, 9:18 pm
My husband Laird does stand up paddling surfing which is all well and good for him.  Me personally, I enjoy paddling in calm water and using it as an additional training tool that helps me get OUTSIDE in nature...comments(6)

No Time

Posted: Feb 2, 2010, 9:36 am
Whenever I hear people talk about the reasons they can't fit a workout into their day, I keep hearing "there's no time." I believe this is true to some degree (especially for working moms), but let me ask you a few questions. How much time do you spend: watching TV, using the computer at home?...

Do Something Radical for 14 Days

Posted: Jan 27, 2010, 5:09 pm
OK my fellow brothers and sisters, let's make a move. We all talk about wanting to make a change, but we get lost in the wishy-washy way we approach the area we desire to change. "I need to eat better." Or "I really should start making time to exercise." What does that mean?...
